Transform Your Branch and WAN Edge Get embedded services for enterprise and service provider networks in a small form factor of 1-rack unit (RU). The Cisco ASR 1001 Router offers a default system bandwidth of 2.5 Gbps upgradable to 5 Gbps with a software-activated upgrade license.

It houses one shared port adapter (SPA) slot that supports single-height SPAs. It includes four built-in Gb Ethernet ports. The first IOS XE software release supporting ASR 1001 is Cisco IOS XE 3.2.0S. The Cisco ASR 1001 Router also introduces the concept of integrated daughter cards (IDCs). Six models of the Cisco ASR 1001 Router are currently available: • ASR1001: without an IDC • ASR1001-2XOC3POS: with an IDC that provides two OC3 POS ports • ASR1001-4XT3: with an IDC that provides four T3 ports • ASR1001-4X1GE: with four 1-Gigabit Ethernet ports • ASR1001-HDD (160 GB): with a 160-GB hard disk drive • ASR1001-8XCHT1E1: with eight channelized T1/E1 ports The IDCs are not field-upgradable.

Install Software On Flash Drive. The ASR 1001 is ideal for: • High-end enterprise branches • Managed services, including VPN and firewall • WAN aggregation and secure WAN • Deep packet Inspection (DPI) • Route reflector • Low-end broadband aggregation (LNS) Software Activation Software activation is supported on the ASR 1001 for some licenses. These licenses enforce consolidated packages such as the software feature sets for K9 and non-K9 IP Base, Advanced IP Services, and Advanced Enterprise Services, as well as the performance upgrade from 2.5 Gbps (default) to 5 Gbps. [AusNOG] Cisco ASR 1k series throughput licensing [AusNOG] Cisco ASR 1k series throughput licensing Tony Wicks Mon Apr 27 19:54:23 EST 2015 • Previous message: • Next message: • Messages sorted by: On the “X” series routers the licencing is not honour system it is enforced (In+out, I remember seeing a document on this but can’t for the life of me find it, but it’s basically half duplex) for traffic passing through the ESP. All other licences (broadband user licence etc) are honesty system. I don’t know if the non-X series actually inforce their ESP 5/10/20/40/100 capacity but its fair to say they will be running out of puff if you exceed that amount anyway.

These are great boxes if you need CPU type functions like NAT or L2TP as they don’t need services cards to do this sort of function (like a Juniper MX or ALU 7750 does) but don’t try and use them to switch traffic or you will just waste money very quickly. I use them for CGNAT and BNG functions and they are great. For General Routing and switching Juniper MX and EX are my personal choice. ASR1002 ESP10 – cr1-lab#show platform hardware throughput level% Error: This show command is not available on this device type ASR1006 ESP40 - r1-w#show platform hardware throughput level% Error: This show command is only available on Ultra, ASR1001, ASR1001x and ASR1002. It seems the non-X don’t support the throughput command so I would assume there is no enforcement just a CPU performance capability limit.

Here’s a useful PowerPoint on the ASR from a few years ago. I’ve always assumed the 1002-x is an ESP-40 licence locked, and the 1001-x is an ESP-20, could well be completely wrong on that though. Cheers From: AusNOG [mailto:] On Behalf Of Nathan Le Nevez Sent: Monday, 27 April 2015 8:19 p.m.

I'm looking at deploying a pair of ASR1001 units at the WAN edge to. Check out the Feature Navigator on Cisco's. User contributions licensed under cc by-sa 3.
